Acton, ON – On Saturday, local MPP Joseph Racinsky met with members of the Acton Curling Club to celebrate the $99,800 Capital grant provided through the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation. The funding has allowed the club to complete significant facility and equipment upgrades, ensuring a safer, more efficient, and more inclusive space for curlers of all ages and abilities.
“The Acton Curling Club has been a central part of the community for nearly 60 years. This grant will enable them to continue providing excellent recreation for many years to come. I want to thank all of the volunteers and members that have worked so hard to bring this project forward,” said Joseph Racinsky, MPP for Wellington—Halton Hills.
With the support of the grant, the Acton Curling Club has:
- Installed attic insulation, snow choppers, and eavestroughs to improve energy efficiency, reduce costs, and protect the building’s infrastructure.
- Reconditioned and reprofiled granite curling stones to restore performance and extend their lifespan by 15 years.
- Replaced the ice scrapper with an efficient and updated machine to help improve the on-ice conditions and further enhance our members’ curling experience.
- Added organizational stations to keep equipment and personal belongings safely stored, reducing hazards around the ice.
- Introduced “Halfway Hacks” to make the sport more accessible for youth and participants with mobility challenges.
“These upgrades mean so much to our members and the broader community,” said Will Barbosa, Events Board Director at the Acton Curling Club. “Thanks to the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s grant of $99,800, the funds were used to help keep the club running efficiently for years to come, but to also ensure curling at Acton is safer, more enjoyable, and furthers inclusivity.”
